Book Review - Open Veins of Latin America: Eduardo Galeano

BOOK REVIEW: Open Veins Of Latin America, by Eduardo Galeano

We all know in general terms that the Spanish and the Portuguese looted Latin America, later to be supplanted by British, Dutch and American capitalism. Open Veins of Latin America details five centuries of pillage, yet it also conveys hope for the future.

Published in 1971 Open Veins was famously given to Barak Obama by Hugo Chávez when Obama visited Venezuala in 2009.

What Open Veins says about South America can be applied to Africa and most of the Third World. The book should be necessary reading for anyone interested in socialism, development, or the Third World.
